The University System of Georgia (USG) will hold its Open Enrollment for 2018 benefits beginning Monday, October 30, 2017 – Friday, November 10, 2017.  The OneUSG Connect-Benefits website and Call Center will be open during this time for you to enroll or make changes to your benefits for the 2018 plan year. What’s New for 2018?

 USG is making a few changes to benefits for 2018 – as well as introducing new tools to help you better manage your benefits.   Explore Your 2018 Benefits .  This year, premiums are increasing between 0% – 10% depending on plan enrollment and coverage tier.  To see healthcare premiums by plan and medical comparison charts please consult the 2018 USG Comparison Guide.

What Happens If I Don’t Make Changes?

If you don’t enroll in or make changes to your benefits during Open Enrollment, your current benefit elections will remain the same for 2018.  Keep in mind that even if you don’t make changes, the plans change every year. The tobacco surcharge will remain at $75 monthly in addition to the cost for medical insurance and applies to employees and dependents age 18 and over.   Employees are encouraged to login to the new OneUSG Connect- Benefits website to view their benefits and update their beneficiaries.

If you do not want to make any changes or new elections for 2018, your current coverage will remain for 2018 (with the exception of the FSA’s—you must elect these each year in order to continue your participation).

GSU Benefits Fair

The GSU Benefits Fair will be held at two locations this year:

  • Monday, October 30th  10:00 am – 2:00 pm      Main Campus – Sports Arena, 125 Decatur St.
  • Friday, November 3rd     10:00 am – 2:00 pm      Clarkston Campus –  Building C(G), Gymnasium


During the Fair, you will be able to meet vendors, learn about the changes for Plan Year 2018, and register to win giveaways. Benefits Fairs are taking place at all USG institutions, so if you can’t make these dates, please check out the 2018 USG Benefits Fair Calendar for more dates and locations that you may attend.

Open Enrollment Meetings

On these days the Benefits Department will present a 1-hour overview of the Benefits offered for 2018 followed by a 30-minute Q&A session.

Benefits Walk-In Days

On these days employees can meet with a member of the Benefits Team one-on-one to ask questions and get help with enrollment in the OneUSG Connect – Benefits website.  Employees that want help with enrollment should come bring their Campus ID and Password with them.

GSU Voluntary Benefits

GSU will continue to offer the following voluntary plans in 2018 without change to plan benefits or premiums. A paper enrollment must be completed and emailed to benefits@gsu.edu  to enroll in these plans:

Shared Sick Leave Pool

All employees of the University who earn or accrue annual and/or sick leave are eligible to participate in the Shared Sick Leave Program. A minimum donation of 8 sick leave hours (pro-rated for part time employees is required to become a leave pool member. Once an employee has transferred a minimum of 8 hours’ leave into the leave pool, and has become a “member” of the pool, they may voluntarily donate up to a maximum of 80 hours during the annual Open Enrollment period by completing a Shared Sick Leave – Member Donation Form.
