Student Health Insurance Options

Please call 866-403-8267 for detailed information about Student Health Insurance.

Welcome to the Georgia State University student health insurance plan (SHIP) for students classified for Mandatory student health insurance or for students needing to purchase health insurance. Mandatory students are as listed below and will see the charge for the health insurance on their student account. The Mandatory groups are:

  • All graduate students awarded a Full Tuition Waiver as part of their graduate assistantship
  • All undergraduate, graduate and English as a Second Language (ESL) international students holding F1 and J1 visas
  • All graduate students receiving fellowships fully funding their tuition

Students in the Mandatory group who are currently covered by comparable health insurance on another policy may apply for a waiver by completing the secure on-line process at http://studentcenter.uhcsr.com/gsu . Once the submitted insurance information has been approved, a process will be run in Student Accounts to apply a credit to your “GoSolar” student account for the insurance charge for the semester. This process may take up to 7 business days following waiver approval.

Summer Semesters waiver dates: The waiver period for Summer Semesters 2014 will open on April 4, 2014 and close on July 1, 2014.  The coverage will begin on  May 12, 2014 and end July 31, 2014.

More information can be found at the link below:

http://sfs.gsu.edu/tuition-fees/what-it-costs/student-health-insurance/

Failure to submit a waiver by the close date will result in automatic enrollment into the UHC health insurance plan and the insurance charge posting to your student account.

Note: A few programs (e.g. Physical Therapy) require students to have health insurance, but are not classified in the “Mandatory” group as defined above and will not be billed on their student account for the health insurance. These non-mandatory students may purchase the student health insurance policy at www.uhcsr.com/gsu as part of the voluntary enrollment process with United Healthcare and pay directly to UHCSR for the premium.
